President Biden and Vice President Harris have been calling for an end of criminal penalties for low-level pot offenses. In 2022, Biden pardoned thousands of low-level marijuana offenses and directed his administration to review the federal prohibition of cannabis. 

On April 30th, 2024, DEA announced that it will be looking to reclassify marijuana from a schedule I drug (which includes dangerous substances like heroin, LSD, MDMA, etc.) to a schedule III drug (alongside anabolic steroids, Tylenol with codeine, etc.), marking one of the most important policy changes in recent history.
