PETITION: Healthcare is a Right

PETITION: Healthcare is a Right

The COVID-19 outbreak and the economic downturn it caused increased the ranks of unemployed Americans by more than 14 million, from 6.2 million in February to 20.5 million in May 2020. The rise in the number of unemployed workers due to COVID-19 is substantially greater than number of unemployed during the Great Recession. By the end of 2020 the economic future of generations of people is in limbo.

What is more unsettling is that many of these people had employer-tied insurance that they lost. Without their paychecks and insurance, people are reluctant to seek medical help which in turn results in suffering and perhaps even death.

In developed countries like Canada, Australia, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the European Union member states, people are covered by health insurance even when losing their employment.

The United States should not strip us of health insurance when we lose our jobs.

We ask Congress to expand Medicare to all Americans so we are able to go to the doctor of our choice and get treated no matter our age, race, or zip code.

Please sign this petition if you believe that we should collectively protect public health and that health care should be a right for all people living in the United States like it is in other developed countries around the world.
